2015:: Life in Fashion

Hi everyone!!

I think I’ll expose myself too much if I did a throwback to all my fashion posts so I’ve decided to narrow it down to my favourites of 2015. My blog was originally fashion based but when I started a new job this year I just realized that I could either stop blogging for a while or just write about what I was going through and I'm just so glad that I decided to do that!!

Today though I want to also pat myself on the back because whenever I got an opportunity, I did not let it go to waste. I do want to eventually transition back to fashion because it's one of my passions but for now I need to prioritize my studies and other goals in my life.

Today I'm sharing with you my best 9 from this year! I hope you guys agree with me in this selection!!

I hope you guys will continue to visit my blog despite the lack of amazing lighting and scenic backgrounds (working on it, promise) and that you understand/identify with my pairings! My wardrobe is super tiny and I re-use a lot of statement pieces - which is actually the goal of my blog and that is the realization that you can have style without having a massive wardrobe collection!!

Here's to another year!!

Always have hope!!

New Year's Eve:: Burgundy Lace

Hi Everyone!

I think it's safe to say that I'm obsessed with lace!! I think whenever I'm looking for a nice party dress my options are pretty pastels and lace dresses!

I wore this beautiful burgundy dress at my friend's wedding in March! It's also a Mr Price dress just like the one in the previous post! It's also safe to say that I live in those stores! Haha!!

I think with this option you can go on a NYE datenight  where you can spend the last few hours of 2015 and early hours of 2016 with your one and only. After that you guys can definitely join the party all around town!!

The shoes are from Legit and they also have a brown/nude and pink/orange option!

What do you guys think?

New Year's Eve :: White Lace

Hi everyone!

Seeing that I've gone more lifestyle on the blog I've gotten so used to writing in my jammies with a messy bun and a great cup of coffee. And I just haven't been feeling up for shoots lately. Butttt I've been so inspired by the GRWM videos for the New Year and all of you guys looking gorgeous in your OOTD posts!

So this morning I bought a lot of fresh veggies and fruits and I've been trying out some easy snack recipes I found on Youtube.

If you feel great on the inside - it will reflect on the outside!

So to prepare for New Year's Eve I'm putting together 3 options (originally it was going to be a wishlist because I've been feeling quite body awful lately but like I said I feel great today so I've decided to create a lookbook instead!)

Option 1 is this beautiful lace dress I got at Mr Price. I got it the time I went to our annual reunion in October and it's been one of my staple pieces ever since. Actually today I was feeling like stacking it full of pearls and vintage necklaces and I don't have any!! Starting a necklace collection feels very logical right now!!

What do you guys think of this look?

Valuable Lessons of 2015

Hi everyone!

This year has definitely been a roller coaster year for sure! If you track my posts from January you’ll see that I’ve gone from post student time to learning how to adapt at the workplace, coping with having my own money, move to more lifestyle blogging and taking blogging more seriously in a way, build up more confidence and also learning a crapload of new things at work.

I have to say that it has definitely also not been an easy year. Struggled to fit in at work because I still have a career identity crisis so I’d have to learn to make smart decision that aren’t necessarily what I would’ve have wanted at the time but I have to learn to make adult decisions based on pros and cons that I always advise you guys to do.

I’ve also learnt so much about myself through my ‘how to’ posts because I truly do what I advise you to do or it’s based on a period of my life where I also had to go into survival mode. My friends sometimes say that I’m too hard on myself and I had to look in the mirror and try to find out why that is. I just find myself so guarded sometimes and I really don’t want you to be like me in that regard but know that what I say to you is truly what I do in order to be okay and fully functional! And most importantly to be HAPPY.

So these are the most important lessons that I’ve learnt this year!
1.       Have some faith!! Faith comes from hope so never live one day without hope.
2.       Always be better than yesterday. This whole year has been a learning year therefore you can’t be taught the same thing every day so always apply what you’ve been taught and then become a boss at it the next day.
3.       Do what makes you happy. If you hate your job and you spend the majority of your day there – you’ll be on anti-depressants in 6 months
4.       Plan your time. You only realize that you had time when it’s gone.
5.       Execute your plans. Otherwise you’ll always be in the dream-level of your life.
6.       Eating badly leads to weight gain. I am now living in all my bad eating habits that were caused by unhappiness and stress by an unexpected workload and change in environment. So no matter how you feel, always watch you eat.
7.       Don’t be in denial about your inability to adapt in a new environment. If you admit and address it you might be able to survive better.
8.       Always treat yourself every month. It can be manicures or trying out new restaurants and trying new hairstyles.
9.       Don’t get stuck in a routine. I truly don’t know anything worse than doing the same things every day for the whole year.
10.   Plan for a getaway. I’m ridiculously regretting that I didn’t plan anything this year and it will just NEVER happen again!
11.   Have your goals on paper. In that way you’re holding yourself accountable. The year is long and you can’t go through the whole year without feeling like you accomplished something! No matter how small. Have goals and keep track of their progress.

Reflecting now has really made me so emotional! It’s been a good year. Learnt so much! Grown so much!!

Affordable Christmas Dinner Beauty Essentials!

Hi everyone!!

So as we speak I'm on my way home to spend Christmas with my family! For some reason I hope it rains because I want to be able to wear my beautiful lace dress that I got for the dinner.

On our Christmas days we've always just come together for dinner, took a few pictures and just continued with the day. This year I asked my mom to buy a tree because we've spent the last 6 years without one. And a Christmas tree just ties everything together in my opinion!

So to prepare for the dinner I got some key things all under R250 so that you can keep Christmas shopping under control.

I saw these cute palettes by Essence(Roses, Greys, Neutrals and Bronze) and got the Bronze one because I just thought it will go well with the dinner party theme and my dress is burgundy so I thought it will also fit well with the dress.
I sort of lost my eyeshadow brush so I picked up this one to try it out (I seriously need to start my brush collection already omw). Hopefully it works well!
And then the red nail polish was so unplanned and to be honest I do not like red on my nails but I'm just so focused on putting the whole Christmas look together so I think it will look spectacular!
Can't wait to try out my falsies! They just look sooo amazing!!
The mask is for after Christmas - my skin will definitely deserve a 20 minute session and also because it was recommended to use the mask twice in the first week of use.

Have you guys used Sorbet face masks? What can you tell me about them? will you guys spend your Christmas?

MCMs of 2015!!

Hi everyone!

2015 has had so many amazing highs and new people have just popped up from all over and based on a recent conversation I’ve decided to share my #MCM’s with you! I’ve been watching The Real online a lot lately and I always loved the #MCM section of the show!

I know that it's not Monday but to be quite honest I only remembered #MCM on Wednesdays. This year I’d say that I definitely chilled under a rock because I always knew of new people way after everyone else was tired of them. So today I’m sharing with you some eye candy from the music scene/ tv shows!

Decided to keep it to a minimum because I'm sort of scared to reveal what a perv/dork I am.

1. Jidenna
Lol guys, am I the only one that thinks that this guy is totally gorg? I mean I never really got to watch the Classic Man video but when I was jamming to Yoga I would be supper excited to get to Jidenna's part of the song!! This guy is totally 100!

urban daily/google

2. The Weeknd
Guys I seriously only knew him from the I can't feel my face song while the rest of you guys probably knew him from his track on 50 shades or even before that! I absolutely love this guy's voice and his creativity!! I'm still a bit undecided about the hair but I guess it's what makes him The Weeknd!!

Billboard mag/Google

3. Terrence J
Guys this guy has been around foreverrrr and I'm just like hey, Terrence now! If you read my 20 facts you know that I'm super gaga about him!! He seems to have an awesome personality and who of course can miss his gorg smile? I think I should stop talking about him now(lol).

4. Steelo Brim
I only know Steelo from Ridiculousness but these days I see him more on Social Media at events and so on. To be quite honest - my mom once said that she wanted me to marry him because he's so good looking!! Do you guys agree?

5. Trai Byers
I know you know him!! Everyone watches Empire!! What draws me to Trai is his personality and humility! Try following him on social media and you'll love him too!!

Essense Magazine/Google

6. Kendrick Sampson
I mean how can I complete this post without this How to get away with murder hottie?! Nah girls! I was introduced to this guy by my friend Thembi and when he joined the cast of one of my fave tv shows I just paid more attention to him because he's just drop dead gorg without effort!! He's also interesting on Instagram!!
Vanity Fair/Google

So what do you guys think?

Let me know about people that are not on this list but are on yours!
(They might be on my extended version)

Enjoy the holidays!!

Affordable Party Dresses

Hi everyone!

Omw guys, I've been procrastinating so much lately. Creating a lust list has literally been on my to do list for the longest time and I've just never shared it with you guys. Omw, deepest apologies!!

I'm going to start off with simple and affordable options from Legit and MrPrice. I think those two outlets fit everyone's pocket and that it's super stylish for parties around December. I wanted to create several options for you guys so in this post it will just be the classic little black dress.

The skater dress is amazing for people with wider hips and girls with amazing shoulders. The sheer dress is for girls with a lean body and giraffe legs and who are a bit shy about their arms (yes, girls like that exist) and then the black and white dress is basically for the average height girl who want to show off some curves and then that last dress will cater for girls with abs.

I hope you guys love this selection!!

Preventing January Brokedom

Hi everyone!!

I watch people go through this every year and it amazes me how people still don’t plan for their shortcomings in January. My mom is a teacher so she’ll always tell me that her kids would all pack up and go see their families in Gauteng and then in January they won’t have enough money for school fees, uniform or books.

So this is only my first year of working and I obviously have no experience in staying afloat myself so these suggested tips will be of how I plan to have myself covered when I return to work in January!! Obviously you should let your hair down, enjoy yourself and end 2015 on a good note! But before you do that, you’ll want to consider these few life saver tips!!!

Pay all your fixed costs (recurring costs) for January now before starting with your Christmas Shopping.

Buy what you’ll need in January now while you have money e.g sanitary products that ran out in December.

Keep your gift shopping to what you can afford.

Only go on trips that you’ve been planning for or ones you are invited to and the majority of the trip has already been taken care of or is free.

Buy things with an expiry date that is past January – in that way you know that you won’t have to include it in your January grocery list.

Avoid using your credit card. Or use an amount that you can pay off within the first month in 2016.

Don’t pick up the tab - no matter how monied you are. You’ll remember that money when it’s rough and the people who you supplied with free booze will also be too broke to remember you.

Make your way back to where you live after the holidays 2 days in advance. I found that it helps you get ready for the first workday of 2016 and also gives you enough time to run last minute errands before the hecticness starts up again.

Enjoy Christmas and New Year responsibly!!

How to Function on Reserve Tank

Hi everyone!!

In the last couple of weeks I’ve been sooo sooo tired. My weekends are also filled up so I haven’t been able to sleep for a full day. On top of that I have to still show up for my 8 to 5 and also be alert and accurate for it. At this moment I’m just closed for business but it seems like it’s our busiest time yet!! Most of all new information has not been absorbed by my brain yet and at this point, it will only be processed sometime next year!!

So to cope I’ve decided to rely on my list making skills because I need to get my life!!!

1.       Rely on your body’s routine.
I think our bodies get used to waking up at the same time everyday so when your body’s up just go with it because if you snooze that button your body will relax and you’ll wake up 3 hours later.

2.       Drink a lot of water.
Seeing that I’m like zombie on heels at work I make sure that I’m a water-drinking zombie on heels. I think what most girls do when going through a stressful period is to also neglect basic healthy necessities. We’re just hopped up on energy juices and we forget to give our bodies that most important element to provide us energy with.

3.       Isolate.
As much as its healthy to see people and have conversations it’s also important to take a day off. If that’s not possible for you do an activity that will still enable you to be alone. I think that spending time alone allows you to help you realize what’s exhausting you and I think you get an opportunity to exercise some problem-solving powers. At this moment I think I’m stressed because I’m doing new work on my own and that I think I’m in a team with the worst planners on earth. I can’t say anything because there are my bosses and I think they might take it the wrong way because I’ve only been here for a year. There – I feel better for saying it already!!

4.       What now?
I think as girls we need control in our environment. So then if there’s chaos we need a way out or a way to cope. So in finding that solution you have to think about the solution that benefits you and also a solution that will not regret. People act irrationally when pressurized so take some days and think about it or better yet ask people who’ve been in the same situation as you!!

5.       Count the days!!
We’re almost closing and in order to get there I have to go through this hardship but I think it’s always better to go through something with a goal in mind. So always look forward to the next thing. Your life can’t be standing still or be stuck in a rut so never fail to make plans and don’t think that your life is meant to go nowhere!! That can’t be the point of life!!

I promise you as soon as I concluded this post I can already feel the difference in how I feel now than what I felt when I walked into work this morning!!

How to become a morning person

Hi everyone!!

For the longest time I only identified myself as a night owl. On most mornings I just used to roll out of bed and it would take close to 3 hours to be really awake. I really don’t miss those days. I think one day last year after I couldn’t sleep for 3 days(…again) I just decided to get up and watch the sun rise for 2 days and it was super life changing for me. I would cry or whatever but that was because I felt burdened at the time, but that specific time in the morning became my favourite time of the day.

I think with a little mindset changes you can become a morning person too!

1.       The key to changing anything is for you to accept that YOU need to want to be a morning person. It’s the same as negativity and optimism. No-one is born to be the one thing forever. So in order to become something you must really want to become it.

2.       Second thing is to work towards it. If you want to be a morning person you must be awake in the morning to truly transition. You must just let it all in. Have your breakfast by the window, take a quick run or start your day early.

3.       Appreciate things about the morning! I believe everyone has a lot of energy in the morning!! Your body is rested, your brain is fresh and a good stretch is actually effective. But if you roll out of bed and your posture is all wrong, you’re going to have a heavy day and everything is going to feel like a burden!! It’s a new day so look new too!!

4.       Slowly shut down the opposite. You can’t be negative and positive at the same time. Just as you can’t be a morning person and a night person at the same time which means that you’ll have an earlier bedtime person (which you must accept) and give yourself a fair opportunity to truly transition. No-one can willingly function on 3-4 hours of sleep every day (unless of course there are circumstances that make it impossible for you to get say 6-8 hours).

5.       Depending on where you live you might have the blessing of getting fresh. I live in a place surrounded by lots of trees and there’s just pure fresh air and it’s on a mountain. I can’t sleep with my windows open – I don’t react well when I’m face to face with a giant insect or based on where I live now some sort of snake that lost its way home. So the first thing I do is open the windows and just take in the new day.

6.       Always start your day with a nice and coldish glass of water. It gets your body up and running and I always find it impossible to sleep afterwards. I just think that you’re giving your body new fuel to just get it up and ready. Try to drink a full glass before you shower if you’re a coffee person so that by the time you drink your coffee your body had a chance to work with clean water!!

One thing I learnt from Fringe from Olivia was that mornings were her favourite time of the day because it was so full of promise and that you don’t know what the new day will bring and I will always carry that with me!!

Ps: Also, I love watching Michelle Phan (more like stalk but who’s investigating?) so I loved it when she said that whenever experiencing failure/disappointment it’s God’s way of saying not yet or there’s something better.

Always start your day on a positive note!!

15 of my Favourite Feelings

Hi everyone!!

I hope everyone is well!!

The other day I came across such a special video on Youtube. It was Claire Marshall’s 15 of my best feelings or something like that and I think I’ve watched it like 3 times now already. The video is beautifully edited – so definitely some #editinggoals there – and it’s just sooo meaningful.

Because I’m not used to vlogging I thought I would just list it here on my blog! I recently did 20 facts and I’m starting to feel like I’m oversharing!

So most of my things are similar to hers but I was interested to see what my other favourite feelings were!!

1.       Opening up my windows in the morning. It’s one of the first things I do. It just makes me feel grateful and determines how I’ll spend the rest of the day and what my outfit options are for the day.
2.       Definitely when I’m having my first cup of coffee. At this moment I’m enjoying Enrista. It’s creamy and super smooth and smells amazing (who else smells their coffee *hands up*)
3.       When I have time for make-up. I’d rather be on time than be late so if there’s no time, I skip make-up. After adapting at work I started carrying a carry on make-up bag in my bag so now everything is fine! LOL!
4.       When I know what I’ll be doing for the day. It’s super frustrating to not have a plan of the day. But when I have a list of things to do/ know that I have free time and will therefore be able to make my own plans, the day definitely goes by much better.
5.       When Scandal comes out! The suspense is really too much from Thursday to Thursday!! I mean whose rule is this?
6.       Hanging out at Bargain Books. It’s literally the best place for me to hang out when I’m having a day off. I love discovering new books and buying fictional action packed books!!
7.       Trying out new restaurants. Super weird. Seeing that I’m not a club person I’d rather be Dora the Explorer of food and new shops.
8.       Hanging out at church! It’s the best place for me to be. My soul gets enriched and I just get strengthened and get ready to take on any challenges! I’m also a huge lover of Planetshakers!!
9.       When I can finally be by myself. I like singing and dancing and lying around and to see how far I can try out a recipe without burning my food. And sometimes I would restructure my room and catch up with the online world.
10.   Being with my mom.
11.   Being with the rest of my family.
12.   Being with parentless kids. I believe that I have so much love to give so whenever I get an opportunity to mentor girls I grab it with both hands. Especially girls who know already that they’re destined to do big things and basically just need a cheerleader.
13.   When I’ve had a really hard day the best thing that can happen is rain. It’s when I know that everything will be okay (so weird).
14.   Travelling. Super nerve-wrecking but definitely worth it! The world is so huge!! I just love seeing something out of the norm.
15.   When I give in to sleep. I think I’d rather be awake all the time but that moment when my limbs give out and my eyes can no longer remain open is the best feeling in the world!!

This was soo awesome!! I hope you guys enjoyed this!!

Do check out Claire’s video!!

How to: Level Up

Hi everyone!

In the last few weeks I’ve had a reality check, so to speak. The year is almost over and I haven’t made any real progress in finding another line of work. I’ve come across so many great things online. Real South Africans making their dreams come true and making real progress. So all of these real events are really motivating me to also want to advance in my life.

So a couple of weeks ago, even though it was extremely nerve wrecking, I entered SocialStar and I have to say it was the most outrageous thing I’ve ever done because afterwards I tried so hard to forget it just so that it wouldn’t freak me out when I’m sleeping. And now in retrospect, it’s the biggest investment I’ve ever made in myself.

I think I believe in myself to a certain extent. It’s why I never take big risks. Just always living in the shadows. I do help people though – it’s one of my passions and I truly believe that it’s one of the main reasons of my existence. I also do that – in the shadows.

So to remedy this situation I’ve come up with some ideas that I’m hoping will work for me:
-          Recognizing the problem. I now understand why those people in AA say: “Hi, I’m Bonnie and I’m alcoholic”. You can’t fix what’s broken just like you can’t level up if you don’t know that you’re a level down. I now want to be a risk taker! A realists! An achiever!!

-          Starting at the bottom. You have to be willing to start at entry level. It’s very hard down there but it’s where everyone that has ever reached an alpha level status starts. Two main inspirations right now are Mindy Kaling and Lupita Nyong'o. Read up on their stories!

-          Preseverence. Looking for jobs is probably the hardest thing I’ve ever encountered. I don’t know how people do this every day for months/years. You’ve got two options here – be hopeful or be numb so that the non-responses don’t hurt you.

-          Do not disclose. If what you want is not in the main stream of things like your doctors and lawyers do not tell people what you’re working on. Let your work speak for you when the light eventually shines on it. Then only will those people who would’ve discouraged you have nothing to talk about.

-          Invest in yourself. In the world of blogging there’s just so many things that are key now to making your blog a recognizable force. You have to have the best in everything BUT I do advice that everything be done in the right time. Don’t live beyond your means. Grow at your own pace.

This is what I’m going to use in order to level up! I hope you also find it helpful.

Sometimes the hardest thing in the world is getting out of bed but if you’ve been blessed with a brand new day there’s really no excuse to live in the yesterday of things!!

Be the best you can be!!

10 tips to get ready for summer!!

Hi everyone!!

It seems like you guys liked the 10 tips to get ready for spring so I decided to write another one for summer! I don’t know what you guys will be doing but I think that we always experience scorching hot Decembers all over the country! So before the sun sets, let’s get started!!

1.       I’ve been talking about reaching year end goals since the second semester started, so I’d suggest that if you haven’t done something cool, we should think about something right now. The only thing to remember about 2015 can’t be Japan beating the Boks (rugby) or #feesmustfall or Adele’s Hello. Plan a last minute trip or invite a few friends to go hiking and make some memories!!

2.       If you’re not bikini bod ready, it’s not a train smash. You could either (a) not wear a bikini and do something more outdoors or (b) decide that everyone should fly sideways and wear your bikini anyway!! Life’s too short to care what people think. Especially if you’ve had a rough year.

3.       Let go. If you’ve had a rough year it’s really a huge load to carry going into Christmas with a heavy heart. If you can, find a way to let go so that you can carry on. If you need some time on your own, take some time off and disconnect in a healthy way.

4.       Family Time. Spend some time with loved ones. There’s something really therapeutic about that. And if you’re in a cool family like mine it will feel great to hear about the progress that your family has made during the year.

5.       Reflect. With some painful memories behind you, you might not want to do that. But if 2015 was a good year for you then this would be the perfect time to tick off some things that you’ve achieved in the year.

6.       Love. If you’ve been in a committed, long-term relationship, this is the time to capitalize on holidays and finally spending some time together. And also the best time for the perfect gifts. And some reassurances and making new memories. If you’re not in a relationship then this is the perfect time to let your guard down and mingle!

7.       Fashion. Summer is all about skin. The dresses, the shorts, sunscreen lotion and flip-flops and rad sunnies. Even if you’re not going to be dipping in the ocean, you just have to know the dress code! Don’t walk around in sweats and slippers! Dressing up can do wonders for your mood and worries!

8.       Planning New Year’s Eve. Isn’t amazing how many weird stories you hear of what people do on New Year’s Eve? LOL! You can’t be spending it at home! Find out what your friends are doing and join in on the fun and weird stories!! Or better yet – put together your own party!

9.       If you’ve been unhappy the whole year, and it’s your fault, really…it’s time to wake up and make changes. Personally, I’m not really a fan of New Year’s Resolutions but for the sake of argument – let’s call it that word. They fall apart so easily but the realisation that the year has gone to waste and it’s already December….that has GOT to be a wakeup call to anybody!!

10.   Bid Farewell. Also similar to the thing mentioned up here but not at the same time. Say goodbye to all bad habits (realistically). There’s no point in dragging things that you know are not good for you around all year. This includes people. People who don’t appreciate you or try to match the effort you put in for them in their own way.

Life is a gift! To live I in regret or misery is a tragedy. Make changes today!!

Social Star

Hi everyone!

So a while ago I read about this amazing opportunity with Jo-Ann Strauss partnering with Samsung. It's about searching for South Africa's biggest online star. Then I scrolled down and continued with my hectic schedule.

But.. it continued to haunt me. Then I read up on it more and I loved the concept. Plus I'm a huge fan of Jo-Ann Strauss ever since was was Miss SA!! So at first I wasn't going to apply because I'd get so much anxiety just thinking about it. But I always encourage you guys take take up new opportunities and to be the best version of yourself and to make the best of 2015!

So I bit the bullet and SUBMITTED it. Which is the best step in taking any chances!

I hope it inspires you guys!!

20 facts about me!

Hi everyone!

I’m happy to announce that this is my 100th post! I seriously don’t know how I got here! I literally started taking blogging seriously last year. It was a secret creative outlet for me and I love being part of this ever growing blogging community! Hopefully from here we can continue to produce good content and learn more tricks!

So today I thought I’d do a facts about me post so that you can get to know me better.

1.       My mom is my best friend
2.       I think I suffer from a fear of being abandoned (don’t know why)
3.       I can stand up for myself but I’m terrified of confrontation
4.       Even though it’s tragic, I set up reminders to watch Air Crash Investigation and Seconds from Disaster. I’m just fascinated by how investigations work
5.       I’m an extreme ‘high walls’ person but through my blog I’ve been able to open up and be myself more.
6.       I’m terrified of nail fractures. I think bone fractures scare me less.
7.       I have a brother and 2 adopted sisters.
8.       I find Terrence J extremely sexy
9.       I would rather watch action movies than chick flicks. I just don’t think I’ll go through all the trouble of getting popcorn for a movie that contains no guns.
10.   I just can’t watch ‘the fault in our stars’ just like I can’t watch ‘my sister’s keeper’. Too emotional I hear.
11.   I’ve never had froyo (need to change that soon!)
12.   I prefer isolation than being around people all the time
13.   I don’t drink/smoke
14.   Extremely terrified of bees and snakes
15.   Everything I know about psychos I got from the University of Criminal Minds on Fox Crime.
16.   I sometimes I wish was a hacker. Don’t know what it is about them. They’re just the definition of cool. I think it’s mainly from how it was portrayed by Aldis Hodge from Leverage

How writing can help you speak up

Hi everyone!

As you know I grew up quite shy and very behind the scenes. Even though that might still be the case today I think it’s a lot better than what it used to be. I can now communicate without being too anxious and I can also be funny and not as socially awkward.

It’s been a long journey but I can definitely say that having a blog has helped me speak up. I believe that even though shy people say that they have nothing to say, it’s not really true. They just have nothing to say out loud. And I’ve been there. So I had something to say but it just wouldn’t go past my lips.

Here’s why I think writing can help you speak up:

·         Have a writing platform. You don’t need a blog. You need pen and paper/laptop. The hardest part is to get the ball rolling. Write about something close to your heart.

·         Emotions. Writing can be quite emotional. Especially if you’re a person that bottles things up or absorbs a lot of emotions, this could give you the freedom to finally express yourself.

·         Release. I believe the biggest part about setting something free is for it to longer be in your heart. Before blogging, I had a diary and shortly before that I used to write letters on a blank page and after pouring everything into it, I’d burn it. It’s really therapeutic.

·         Another one. If you feel like writing that first letter didn’t aid you in any way, that’s okay. Write another one. This time directed to a person. We all have something to say to each other. Now, put it in a letter. Especially when you can’t say it to the person’s face.

·         Now Speak. Start with smaller groups. You’ll have to fabricate the confidence though. Speaking is easy when the conversation is about things that you are interested in. You have opinions and views because it’s something you think about all the time. Now let it be heard.

·         Engage. Being part of groups really helps but there comes a time when it’s your turn to make other shy people come out of their shell. Bring people together with similar interests to yours. You don’t even have to do it face to face. These days there’s twitter chats and Facebook groups and things like that that has made it real easy for people with similar interests to connect!

What are you waiting for?

Get started!!

How to keep your dreams alive

Hi everyone!

I hope everyone’s good!! In the past week I’ve gone through a lot of emotions. I think most of them were pure anxiety and I have to express how tiring it is. But I’ve kept my head down and continued working. However a voice inside of me kept creeping through
…this is NOT where you belong..

I feel so suffocated and if given the chance I would either let out a scream of frustration or just weep like Mary.
So with our new client I was brought in to replace a colleague because he wasn’t being effective (or so I was told) so coming in I already had so much doubt and confusion and one feeling that was at 90% was definitely RESISTENCE.

It’s been 2 weeks now and even though it’s a work in progress I just find myself so left-handed. I have so many things to do and I feel like I’m working without any assistance on work I’ve never done before. Every day I just want to resign just so that I can get a break but it just seems like there’s a lot of negative consequences to doing that.

So I dream. And try to plan. Even if it’s a small dream and a small plan. Just so that I don’t feel so lost. I’m turning 24 in about 2 months and I’m really looking forward to big changes. So in this process I’ve learnt a couple of things.

·         Always stay in touch with things that are in line with what you want to do. Either through social media platforms or people that are involved in it. This keeps the conversation going in your mind. And you never get left behind.
·         Allocate time. There’s never enough time in a day to get everything done. However if you have a set schedule it’s easier to get things done because I’m one of those people who don’t know when I woke up and what I did all day by the time I get to bed. I mean what a waste of time!
·         Take Risks. This is the hardest part but honestly there are just no rewards without it! It’s really about identifying opportunities and just grabbing them with both hands. There’s a lot of things that can go wrong, obviously, but the point should be that you attempted something. Not that you won or became victorious in it.
·         Be authentic. How can people take you seriously if you always do half-baked things? It’s so easy to just become average but we’ve been made to be more than that. So never do things for the sake of doing it, let everything that you do be a true reflection of what you’re passionate about and what you’re trying to let people know about you.
·         Pen it. Being a full time employee in a field that require accuracy and full focus it’s not easy to make time to do what I love so in order to keep my dreams alive I just write stuff down whenever the idea comes to me so that I don’t forget it. In that way it’s always in my mind.
·         Repeat it. A dream dies when no-one talks about it. It’s a fire that you need to keep fanning so that it doesn’t die out. So if your dreams are under your blanket or in your pocket – that is where they’ll always remain. Always work towards them. At night. Over the weekend. Anywhere, anytime.
·         Your people. Stop wasting time with people that only want to gossip all day long. I mean it’s good to laugh with friends and have wine and snacks but you can’t be wasting your time with that all day long. Have a quick meaningful catch up sesh and then it’s back to the hustle.

It’s hard work to keep dreaming but without hope we’re just waiting around to die. So always reach for something. There’s always the next level, the next opportunity!

Fresh Energy {A Review}

Hi everyone!

I hope everyone is well. During my last stock up I decided to try new things. I work out of town now and I have to live out of my bag so I can only take essentials. Being in this environment it can get quite rough on your health and beauty habits. So I decided to add to my skincare collection!

My new client is based in a very dry, hot and humid area so I've been wearing minimal make-up and I'm always tired after work so cleaning up my face can be quite daunting. So when I saw the Simple exfoliating wipes I just had to give them a try. I've also seen Shirley and Suzi use them so I was curious to get into the hype.

Amazing product! It's extremely effective and not harsh to my skin. I really hope they re-stock them because they will now become part of my out of town suitcase! Each pack has 25 wipes which is more than enough for roughly a full work month. Definitely a mush have! I was also excited to see that they have other products that I'll definitely be trying in future!

My normal exfoliator was running out and I had the option between the Garnier scrub and face wash or Neutrogena, and I'm glad I decided to go with the one I wasn't sure about because it's currently exceeding ALL my expectations. The pink one was originally my first choice but because it's summer I'm all about the greens and its freshness. I've been having a lot of issues with my face lately and I really just feel clear and fresh after using my new scrub. Definitely a hit!

I found my wipes at PicknPay and I'm sure they can be found at Clicks and Dischem as well. Try it out!

What has your experience been with Neutrogena?

How to survive the deep need to withdraw

Hi everyone!!

I hope you’re all well! Recently I went to take a personality test and I have to say I learnt more from it that what I thought I would. Originally I went so that I could learn more about myself and others in order to work more effectively in a group.
So basically after the test it seemed like I fell into the 2 categories that explained more or less how I feel/behave. At first it was so overwhelming to realize how I do exactly what it said I do when I encounter different things like stress and how I work with other people.

So today I thought I’d address one of those elements.

If you’re like me and you withdraw when you encounter stress, I need you to know that that’s okay.
Last year I faced one of the biggest challenges in my life and looking back now I could go on and on about how I could’ve handled it better but thinking about how I felt in the situation back then I think I would’ve done the exact same thing.

There are those people who wake up in the morning and faced the same challenge as I did head on, while I walked around not being aware of what was happening until it was too late. I remember that when it was time for tests I needed to use sleeping pills because the stress made me a professional insomniac. There were times where I couldn’t sleep for 3 days at a time. I would literally watch my roommate fall asleep, wake up, go about her day, fall asleep and wake up…all while I was wide awake.
This year I’m sort of facing a similar dilemma. Not as hectic but I think I’ve had a few withdrawal symptoms and I think I now know how to handle them better. These tips are not to change who you are but to help you cope better with withdrawal.

1.     Plan.
I think we tend to be less anxious when we know what’s going to happen. So it helps to have ‘your version’ of how it’s going to go down. If you are not sure what will be required of you, the best way is to ASK so that you how to go about it

2.     Fear of the unknown.
If you’re always anxious about the unknown/the immediate future and everything after you’ll need to face it (with help from step 1) and to make yourself accept it because if you don’t, the hours will seem longer and will struggle to process any new information/instructions because you’re still resistant to take a leap. This is the hardest part because it goes against everything your behaviour of withdrawal wants to do.

3.     Adapt
Also hard but can be done in steps. Take in the environment, its people, its behaviours and then adjust yours accordingly. If you’re lucky there’ll be one or two people that will make you feel welcome which will help you let your guard down. If not then look for a person similar to you and start with an ice breaker. (Hey, what’s your name? Where are you from? That usually works)

4.     Take control.
Use the plan that you had. Now that you’ve familiarized yourself with your new surrounding you’re now able to be yourself more. You know what you need to do and you can ASK if you don’t understand.

5.     Get enough sleep
It’s so exhausting to pretend like you’re not a withdrawal person that it takes up quite a huge chunk of energy to keep it up. In the first few days of being in unfamiliar territory you’ll need to rest up because if one thing goes wrong your anxiety emotions might take over and dissolve all the hard work you’ve put in to look in control of a chaotic situation.

I think these few things really helped me in the past week and can help you too. Let me know what you think and also add a few ideas that you’ve had to use in order to cope.

Till next time.
